Lyman has been a performing sculptor for over 60 years, with unique knowledge of materials and their application possibilities. For the past 40 years, he has primarily focused on creating wind sculptures, all of which are handmade. The wind sculptures are innovative and artistic with a high degree of mechanical integrity. They are valued for their quality and craftsmanship.
Lyman`s sculptures appear organic and magical, and they are in accordance with his philosophy of life. As an artist, he can express his concern for the survival of the planet through a creative medium. Concerned about the duration of our culture's current systems, in relation to climate change, Lyman`s strongest wish is that his art must symbolize a movement towards better solutions in relation to the Earth. By placing the sculptures in natural elements of movement, we get the opportunity to think about our surroundings. Lyman's sculptures are organic and natural as vegetation and can best be enjoyed in interactive settings, where they can be seen and experienced over time.
The dissemination of his art has allowed Lyman to create an inspiring and modern Studio in southern Utah, USA. His art is presented at "Fine art galleries" in the United States. In addition, public and private installations exist in the United States, Canada, Europe, Turkey and Australia.
Lyman Whitaker's Wind Sculptures are handmade of copper and stainless steel. The wind sculptures are mobiles, which move in the wind and by their movements give a feeling of meditative calm, at the same time as the wind sculptures create beautiful patterns. The wind sculptures are suitable both in private gardens and in public spaces - in parks, in front of office buildings or institutions. Each wind sculpture comes with a steel spear for fastening in the ground or in concrete, and there are also fittings for mounting on terraces or the like. Assembly is simple. The wind sculptures are very solid, have few mechanical parts (sealed ball bearings) and can therefore stand outside for many years - summer and winter. The wind sculptures vary in height, from approx. 1.5 meters to approx. 9 meters, and can be installed either alone or in groups. Suitable as garden art.
In our garden we have a permanent exhibition of approx. 40 different wind sculptures.
